Introduction

Seek & Dread Online is a free top-down multiplayer shooter. It is similar to Counter-Strike but it is a 2D-game. You control a terrorist or a police man. You can move your character with the keyboard and aim with the mouse. In the deathmatch mode you have no friends, all that counts is that you survive. Collect firearms and grenades that appear randomly on the playfield and do not forget to refresh your health while you are in the action of heavy gunfights. In the team mode you can choose if you want to join the terrorists or the police forces. Then you can buy your equipment and start to conquer the enemy's base with your team. Planting C4 to destroy walls, flashing your enemies with flashbangs, blowing up your enemies with HE-grenades or corner them with gas grenades will help you to accomplish your mission. Due to the map editor you can create your own scenarios.

Hosting Solutions

Once your hosted check to see if anyone can join your server. If they tell you that they can't then your going to need to try certain methods to fix the problem.

Firewall

Router

If you're using a router with the default configuration you wont be able to host games so you need to forward or "open" the port of the game. (Snd uses ports 1203 and 1204 on default and as protocol TCP ) Here is a To Do description for relative new DLINK-Routers, for other routers it might be similar:

Map cycle

To activate the map cycle check the box in the host menu. To edit it open the file mapcycle.txt with a text editor. The first line is the time in minutes which will be spend on every map. After that line you can add maps to the map cycle and seperate them with break line. The last line must be empty. Look at all your maps that you have and place the map's name on one of the lines. Do not use the file extention *.sdo. If the name is "lts_bunkers.sdo" then name it "lts_bunkers". If you place in a map you do not have it will ignore it and move to the next line or back to the begining again. The first line must be a map you have. If you do not have that map or typed it wrong you will basicly get a black screen. Map Cycleing is a good way to have players play on different maps and see who can score the most within the map time. Once the map is changed all scores and teams are reseted.

Playing

When hosting or playing on someone's server there are a few things you should know about. There are three types of games first of all. DM - Deathmatch, TDM - Team-Deathmatch and LTS - Last Team Standing. Information about these games are covered later on. On the top left it shows "1. Weapon" and "2. Weapon". The 1 is for the default weapon "SIGP 228" or "GLOCK 19C". The 2 is for the secondary weapon. The second weapon you will have to pick up or buy. These weapons have a limited amount of ammo. The current weapon you are useing will be highlighted in blue. When you run out of ammo the gun will automatically reload if you got enough ammo otherwise switch your weapons. At the top of the screen your current ammo will be shown for the current weapon you are using. Below that there is a health bar. In TDM and LTS games on the top right it will show the scores for police and terrorists. The bottom left corner will display the ingame chat. There are two shooting modes: red (normal mode) and blue (headshot mode). Headshot mode makes 3x more damage but you can only hit their heads. By pressing the tab key you can see all the players in the game, IDs, scores, and who's currently in the lead.

Deathmatch (DM)

A Deathmatch game is a type of game where you just kill anyone that you can. This is a good type of game for newbies to start with since it does not take much skill. You get to learn about the different weapons. While playing on this map crates, grenades and health packs will appear randomly on the playfield. The crates contain random weapons. However, if a host blocked certain weapons then it will not appear in these crates. Health packs will heal you by 40 hitpoints. If you pick up a grenade it will either be a "Gas Grenade" or a "HE Grenade". If you die then you have to wait five seconds. Then when your ready to fight again you need to press the "Space Bar".

Team-Deathmatch (DM)

A Team-Deathmatch game is exactly like a Deathmatch except it's played with teams. This is good for newbies who want to try to play on a team. If your on the police side you need to kill a terrorist. If your on the terrorist side you need to kill the police. If you kill one of your own teammate you will lose two points from your score. The more you kill your own teammates the bigger the chance to get banned. So this will help your team playing skills.

Last Team Standing (LTS)

Last Team Standing is where a lot of skilled players play. As a newbie your free to play it but you should at least be skilled enough to not kill your teammates. There are two teams, Police and Terrorists. In a TDM game you get the same weapons for either side. In a LTS game this is true except for "Flashbang" and "HE Grenades". In a LTS game the round does not end until there is only one team standing. This is another reason to be a bit skilled, otherwise you might get bored of waiting for the next round. In this type of game you buy your weapons, grenades and ammo at the begining of the round. You start with $1,500 and each round you get the same amount. If you manage to kill someone you get a $500 bonus for each player you kill. If you kill your own teammate you lose all your money and two points. If you die in a round you just lose your weapon.
